THE HISTORIC ROSELAWN CHAPEL

The planning and construction of this historic landmark began in 1902 on the east side of the entrance to the cemetery. The southern wing of the building rests the sanctuary in which thousands of funeral and memorial services have been hosted over the past century. The chapel comfortably seats 85 guests, but can accommodate a cozy 100 if needed. While the reverent care and transitional needs of this building have been delicately and diligently handled over its lifetime, in 2023 the entire roof was replaced along with complete tuckpointing and restoration of the exterior stonework. In 2024, the board of directors approved a comprehensive restoration of the interior including chapel flooring, walls, pews, and woodwork. As part of this restoration, the gathering room carpeting was updated and the north wing of the building was rehabilitated to better serve the needs of our community. This part of the project included transitioning the cold storage space into private meeting space, interior storage, updated heating and cooling space, and a prep kitchen to accommodate the many catered events taking place in the gathering room.

GATHERING ROOM

The Gathering Room is located in the south half of the north wing in the Roselawn Chapel building. This area of the building once served as the winter catacombs for the surrounding funeral homes and cemeteries. After coal and propane were introduced allowing burials to take place year-round, this section of the building went unused for a number of years. In the mid-1990s, the board of directors engaged the historical architects from Miller-Dunwiddie and developed a plan to transition the space into a fireside and gathering room. Today, the gathering room space comfortably seats 50 guests, but when combined with the patio space, can host 75+ guests for gatherings, receptions and other significant events.

While the chapel space is available to anyone being buried at Roselawn Cemetery at no charge (so long as a funeral/cremation representative is present), there are fees assessed for use of the gathering room that depend on the type of use.

  • If the space is simply being used for additional visitation space (without food or beverage), the fee is $200.
  • If the space is being used and coffee service is selected, the fee is $275.00.
  • If the space is being used for a reception and food and/or beverages are being served, the fee is $350.00.

Any food served in the gathering room must be provided and overseen for the duration of food service, by a licensed caterer.

Roselawn Cemetery will gladly coordinate the catering needs for events for those interested in this service.
